New Voters Register: It Was Deliberate; EC Fond of Doing That – Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has refused to accept the excuse of the Electoral Commission that the inclusion of the new voters register in its Communique as among the main issues discussed at their recent Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting was a mistake.

According to him, what the EC did was "either deliberate or an act of incompetence".

Speaking in an interview with sit-in host of Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Akosua Agoe Aboagye, he bemoaned about the consistent mistakes by the EC; recounting on a previous IPAC meeting whereby the EC also begged the opposition party for not inviting them to take part of the referendum on the creation of six new regions.

He however reminded the Electoral Commission to see itself as the referee for all the political parties, urging the Commission to be fair and mindful of its words and works.

“ . . it is unfortunate that the Electoral Commission keeps making mistakes instead of them proving a point to make a good impression about themselves, about their competence, and other things have resulted in this disastrous move.”

“ . . if that is so why didn’t they mistakenly drink poison and call it a mistake . . . they know what they were doing because it was deliberate and are fond of doing that," he said.

He therefore advised the EC to be humble and learn from its predecessors if it is facing challenges.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia added that the NDC therefore "disassociates itself" from the communique and demands it's withdrawal as it is not in consonance with conclusions of the IPAC meeting.
