UEW Impasse: We'll Go To Court If Other Dismissed Lecturers Are Not Reinstated - Afenyo-Markins (VIDEO)

Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin says they will be forced to go to court if the remaining dismissed lecturers and staff are not reinstated.

According to him, though is he satisfied with the reinstatement of some three (3) lecturers by the governing council of University of Education, Winneba prior to the reopening of the school today (Monday), the governing council must take steps to equally have the other dismissed staff reinstated.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that he has been meeting with the affected staff of the University and they have a good case, but he will not advise them to be discussing the issue back and forth on radio.

Afenyo-Markin said he will assist them to seek redress in court if internal mechanisms applied fail to secure their reinstatement within the shortest possible time.

“We need to resolve the matter once and for all. As far as I know, from the meetings I’ve participated in and the conclusions arrived there, all those who were sacked as a result of a disagreement with the new management in one way or the other were supposed to be reinstated and I believe the vice-chancellor is well aware of this.

“He and I know that those people, most of them were seen as supporters of Avoke. We have been all tasked to ensure reconciliation. Reconciliation should not be done in a manner that will not give a positive impression. Dr. Bekoe is supposed to be reinstated, I don’t see why Bekoe must be left out, I don’t see why Agbesi will still have to sit at home on suspension.

"I don’t see why Dr Duku will be reinstated and others left out”, he said, explaining that in the case of one “Mr Quarshie, the circumstances for the termination of his appointment were unfair and, so, I expect that the right things will be done.”

He is  convinced that Prof. Afful-Broni is willing and ready to discuss matters and ensure that this matter is resolved amicably.

Students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on the Ejumako and Winneba campuses returned to school today, 8 April 2019 to resume academic work after nearly one month of inactivity.

The two campuses were shut down on 14 March, 2019 after a protest by the students which turned violent leading to widespread damage of school properties worth millions of cedis.

The aggrieved students were protesting the dismissal of some lecturers by the Vice-Chancellor Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni.
