Tamaklo Memorial Golf tees off on Feb.20

This year's K. N. Tamaklo Memorial Open Golf Championship tees off at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday, February 20. Mr Kwabena Oteng-Aboagye, General Manager of the Achimota Golf Club, who disclosed this to GNA Sports in Accra on Tuesday, said the one-day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition, which was open to amateur golfers throughout the country, forms part of activities marking the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Nyaho Medical Centre. He said the championship would also be played in memory of Dr Kwami Nyaho Tamaklo, founder of the Nyaho Medical Centre and a senior member of the Achimota Golf Club who died in 2001. Mrs Barbara Opoku, Administrator of the Centre described the late Dr Tamaklo as a renowned golfer whose exemplary role brought significant contributions to activities of the Ghana Golf Association. She said as a medical doctor, the founding member ensured that many of his colleagues benefited from the enormous health-related advantages that the sport offered them. Mrs Opoku said as an icon and a golfer for 25 years, a memorial tournament was therefore instituted in his memory and had been played for the past seven years. Among an array of golfers who had already registered for the competition includes Mike Aggrey, Gilbert Morgan, Dan Dennis, Mike Ezan, Matthew Dorfe, Charles Tabi and Yaw Assah-Sam, all of the Achimota Golf Club. There would be prizes for the 'Longest Drive on Hole 18' and 'Nearest to the Pin on Hole 17'. Mrs Janet Tamaklo, Chief Executive of the Centre is expected to grace the occasion.
