Sammy Awuku And MP For Upper West Akyem Adeiso Debate Sinohydro Deal

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper West Akyem Adeiso in the Eastern Region says his party is not anti-progressive.

According to Derek Ohene Bekoe, their focus is for government to have value for money in every project undertaken.

The MP was reacting to the Minority's claim for a value for money audit for the $2 billion Sinohydro deal.

The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Road and Transport Committee, Kwami Agbodza has accused Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of preventing technical officers from coming up with a value for money audit on the Sinohydro deal.

Discussing this on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Hon. Bekoe said they are not against the deal, they just want to ensure ‘value for money’ “and the only way to do that is to see the document”.

"NDC as a party; we are never against development . . . anything that will bring development, NDC is for it. But we are not happy with the approach government takes when it comes to loan deals; there is the need for a value for money audit to know the risk and other factors involved; to ensure value for money," he said.

In response, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku speaking on the same platform, said government has the best interest of every Ghanaian at heart as far as this deal is concerned and that there is indeed value for money.

“We may not always get it right as a government but we will not deliberately get it wrong,” he added.
