We Will Not Shield Staff Caught In Voting Malpractices – Jean Mensa

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has maintained that the electoral body will in no way shield any staff, permanent or temporary, caught indulging in any voting misdemeanors.

Jean Mensa said the Commission which has the mandate to ensure fairness during any voting processes will not hesitate to bring culprits to book when they are caught.

The EC Chair was speaking with regards to some viral videos on social media of some persons allegedly thumb printing multiple ballot papers, with many suggesting that the acts took place during referenda for the creation of new regions.

“…It is something that we consider very very grave and it is for that reason that we went out on our way and I’m sure that this may be the first time that the EC has contacted the IGP to take up matters such as this and we do not believe that this is the first time such thing has happened.” Jean Mensa condemned.

Meanwhile, the EC has said the videos were put out there to “discredit” the referendum and the “integrity” of the Commission. “That is why we are hoping that the security agencies to whom the issues have been referred will expedite action on them to put the matter to rest.” The EC indicated.
