Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Dines With Widows On Easter (PHOTOS)

The Member of Parliament for Prestea/Huni-Valley Constituency and Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has organised a party for widows in her constituency as part of the Easter festivities.

The party which has become an annual affair brought over 500 widows across the length and breadth of the constituency on Monday April 22 to congregate at Bogoso for merrymaking.

The elated and enthusiastic widows received a half piece of cloth each after they were treated to food, drinks and music amidst dancing to foster unity and peaceful co-existence.

As part of the program, the widows were educated on the prevention of cervical cancer and were screened for high blood pressure and related diseases.

Addressing an enthusiastic gathering on behalf of the Member of Parliament, Mr. Mozart Kweku Owuh, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the constituency said Mrs. Oteng-Gyasi knowing the challenges widows had to go through when they lose their husbands was motivated to hold this program.

“Mrs Oteng-gyasi's mother was a widow and she brought her up single handedly that is why she understands how it feels to be a widow hence the need to put smiles on your faces,” he added.

The MCE enumerated several activities and projects the MP has undertaken in the constituency especially to support the well-being of women which includes the provision of an Incubator and expansion works at the children's ward of the Prestea gov't hospital, introduction of the Obaapa Micro Loan Scheme, free health screening and registration of Health insurance.

He noted that the MP would continue to pursue the interest of the vulnerable to improve their well-being through any form of assistance that she can offer when they approach her office.

The MCE advised the widows not to be discouraged in life but rather organize themselves into groups to enable them to get financial support to do business to support themselves. He assured the widows that the Assembly will work hand in hand with the MP to prioritize their needs and offer more assistance to them.

Mr. Owuh took the opportunity to wish the widows a blessed Easter and further appealed to them to continue to remember Mrs. Oteng-Gyasi in prayers to strengthen and enable her bring more development to the constituency.

Most of the widows who spoke to the media expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi for such a humanitarian gesture and prayed that she deepens her love and care for them in years to come.

The event was graced by the constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Abbeam Danso, constituency executives, chiefs and elders of the community.
