Malik Basintale Writes: We Woke Up Today To “No Bread” In The Northern Region

Awkward as it was, I intercepted a statement from the Association of Bread Producers highlighting their Overdue Appeals to Government over a reduction in prices of raw materials.

Bread flour had ballooned by 25% just within 3 weeks.

Sugar had risen in an unprecedented manner from Ghc160 -Ghc200 within same 3 weeks upon all previous increments.

Questions are:

The Agric Minister recently claimed Maize, Millet, Sorghum et al under the PFJ was a boom and thus causing cheaper prices of products and eradicating hunger in Ghana.

Bawumia insists the economic fundamentals are super-strong, import tariffs at the port have been subsidized and thus significantly reflecting the prices of goods in the market as well.

So now, Why this shortage just at the verge of Ramadan where this commodity is most needed and why the gigantic increase in prices of sugar just when it will be the most demanded commodity during this same Period.

A means of extortion from the Muslim community since Government is the Major Importer of sugar?

In spite of the Reality on grounds leading to this Calamity bestowed upon we indigenes of the North, We genuflectly plead with authorities in charge especially our Long-Gone brother Dr.Bawumia to intercede the plights of hundreds of producers and millions of consumers at the soonest of time to save the situation.
