We Can't Finish Entire 4000 km Railway Project Even In 8 Years, But . . . - Joe Ghartey

Minister for Railways Development, Hon. Joe Ghartey has disclosed that President Akufo-Addo’s dream to revamp the entire 4000km network of railway project in the country cannot be completed even within 8 years if the President wins the 2020 general election.

Even though it is impossible to accomplish the dream within 8 years, the Minister for Railway Development has assured Ghanaians at the Ministry of Information “Meet The Press” series that President Akufo-Addo’s promise to the railway sector will be fulfilled.

“The total network of the railway project in the country is 4000km; we cannot finish the entire railway project in 8 years but what the President has vowed to do is that he will construct Accra to Kumasi railway lines; Sekondi-Takoradi to Kumasi and he will do another lines to Paga, that is what the President said he will do,” he assured.

He recounted that the railway network may not reach Paga within the 4 years but has however assured that his Ministry has started developing the lines and so within 8 years of President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, the promises will be fulfilled.

“So within the 4 years, I want to assure Ghanaians that as the President said, we have started developing it and we cannot finish all within the 4 years. We will not finish, get to Paga within the 4 years but we have started the development and within the 8 years, I can assure you that as for the promise we will do more,” he added.

He insisted that the railway sector, not just the Ministry is committed to making the dream of President Akufo-Addo pledging to revamp the railway business in the country become a reality; thus “we are not relenting on our effort to work hard to ensure that dream of the President is achieved”.

“The President said that one of the legacies that he wants to leave is a modern railway network. The vision that the President had of leaving a modern railway network is a good vision and it is a laudable vision and I am happy to report to the good people of Ghana that slowly but surely, step by step that vision is going to realised,” he reiterated.
