Winning AFCON Is A Difficult Task - Dede Ayew

Andre Dede Ayew, the Black Stars captain has said, though winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is a herculean task, the players are focused to bring the ultimate trophy to Ghana.

He said this at the Jubilee House when the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo hosted the team to a farewell dinner yesterday.

The Black Stars would depart the shores of Ghana to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, June 1, to commence preparations for the biennial tourney billed for June 21- 19 July in Egypt.

Captain Ayew said “we know this is a difficult task ahead of us and this tournament was a huge one and we are aware of what is at stake”.

The Fenerbahçe midfielder, who had a torrid season in the Turkish League assured the president that his side would win the 2019 AFCON trophy.

He said “we would work very hard because we’re focused to bring victory to Ghana to make Ghanaians happy.”

Ghana is paired with defending Champions Cameroon, Benin and Guinea Bissau and would open her campaign against Benin on Tuesday, June 25.
