Re: Agogo Zongo Community Rejects Food Items Donated By Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi, Mp For Asante Akyem North Constituency
Our attention has been drawn to a malicious publication circulating on various media outlets with the sole objective of vitiating the personality and political career of the Chairman for the governing Board of the National Sports Authority and former Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North Constituency, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang.
On Saturday, 1st June, 2019, the Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North Constituency, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi, sent a delegation headed by the District Chief Executive (DCE) to pay a courtesy call on the Chief and people of the Agogo Zongo community. The visit was also meant to donate food items to our brothers and sisters as they prepare to climax the month long period of fasting and prayers (Ramadan).
Unfortunately, the Muslim community rejected the donation and eccentrically chased out the MP’s delegation. They claim the MP has made several lofty promises which he has since reneged on. They stated among others that the MP promised to fix and rehabilitate the deplorable road in the community within 6 months after assuming power.
He also promised to donate 100 bags of cements, furniture, 4 trips of sand and an amount of GHc 10,000.00 to help the community rebuild its basic school which was in partial ruin. The promises were made at a durbar organized by the Zongo community. As a result of these promises and the confidence reposed in the MP, the community pulled down the school building with the hope that the MP would honour his promises.
They furthermore opined that, the MP also promised to hire 2 Arabic teachers who would be given GHc 500.00 monthly stipends each from his share of the common fund in order to facilitate and ensure development of education within the Zongo community.
“Almost three years after assuming power, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi has failed to honour these promises. The incident was therefore meant to send a signal to the honourable legislator that the Zongo community has overcome their electoral benightedness and will no longer be taken for granted”, the irate youth noted.
However, the Communications Directorate of Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has been made aware of various comments and posts that the NPP Constituency Secretary and Youth Organizer for the Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr. Williams Aboagye and Derrick Amoah have made and are making in the media which makes reference to Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang.
They claim that the incident that occurred on Saturday, 1st June, 2019 at Agogo Zongo was fiendishly designed by Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang. This same groundless assertion has been published on the twitter handle of class FM.
We wish to state for the records that the claim by the above mentioned personalities is a contrived mendacity, calculatedly designed to smear the political reputation of Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang and should therefore be treated with the contempt that it deserves.
The point must be made that Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang who is a government Official is a law abiding member of the great NPP and will at all times uphold the core values of the Party. As a former Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North Constituency who still has a burning desire to serve his constituents and would therefore pick nomination forms to contest in the impending NPP Parliamentary primaries for election 2020, would be the least to engage in any activity that would be inimical to the fortunes of the party.
He is also not oblivious of the invaluable contributions from the Zongo communities which culminated in the party’s overwhelming victory in the 2016 general elections. He will therefore under no circumstances contemplate the thought of engineering of a situation that would create dissatisfaction for the party within the Zongo enclave. Furthermore, the Zongo community is made up of respectable and matured people. It’s therefore unfortunate for anybody to suggest that they can be cowed or influenced to take a particular action.
We wish to further state that for the past 2 years, the constituents and some religious bodies within the constituency have had the cause to complain about Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi’s “duck out of” attitude since he always welsh on his promises:
· He promised subscribing some of the Zongo women onto the school feeding program, but, has since disappointed them. He even diverted the single slot that was specifically allocated to the Zongo community. Immediately after assuming power, he further promised facilitating the travel of 5 people from the Zongo community to Mecca for the Holy Pilgrimage. That promise also eventually turned out to be a deception.
· In the round up to the last Parliamentary primaries, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi made it emphatically clear that he is very rich and that he will have no need for his monthly salaries. In light of this, if delegates gave him the nod, each of them will get a monthly allowance. It has been 30 months since he assumed office, yet, not a single delegate has received a dime from him.
· He promised to put up a school building for the People of Meenam, a deprived community in Asante Akyem North District. The district assembly had initially made provisions for the building of the school in its budgets, but, the idea was quashed, with the hope that the MP would make do with his promise. At the time of writing this release, even a single foundation block has not been laid.
· He promised to donate 200 bags of cement to an SDA Church at Domeabra and same to the Presbyterian Church in Agogo. All efforts by the Clergy to reach the Hon. Member of Parliament in order to take delivery of these items have proved futile.
· He introduced a contractor to the people of Ananekrom with the intention of building a school for that community, but, failed to do so. The District assembly then decided to take up the project using the GetFund. The MP has however arbitrarily stopped the project simply because the assembly member for that area decided to credit the project to the achievement of the DCE.
· As we speak, some indigenes of the constituency are currently battling the MP in court because the law maker sued them for requesting him to account for his share of the MP’s common fund. But, for the intervention of some officials at the District Assembly, he would have instigated the removal of an Assembly member (Government appointee) by name Alhaji Sulemana Abdul-Hamid for no justifiable reason. We have a letter to that effect. Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi’s administration is characterized by fear, panic and culture of silence; traits that are alien to our fledgling democracy.
Given, but not limited to the above mentioned instances, it’s clear that the incident that happened at the Zongo community was occasioned by anger and frustration. It was a natural reaction to the MP’s brute attitude as indicated by the chief and people of the Zongo community. It is therefore preposterous for anyone to drag Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang into this mess.
The comments are delusions of his detractors imagination designed to damage the reputation of Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang and divert attention from the real issues. We wish to state that these unwarranted actions and baseless defamatory attacks on the person of Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang gives rise to a cause of action for defamation, among other things. We are therefore by this release cautioning the perpetrators to cease and desist from any of such unfounded allegations in order to avert any possible action.
We wish to assure the great Elephant party that Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang is not distracted by some of these malevolent schemes. He remains strong and focused on working hard to help ensure victory for the party in 2020, while keeping faith that the battle is still the Lord’s.
