The Inception report prepared by M/s Systra Transtech and Rebel as part of feasibility studies for the development of a Metro/Light Rail Transit System in Accra has been submitted to the Ministry of Railways Development in Accra. 

Committee of stakeholders, led by the Railways Development Ministry, yesterday 12th May 2019, met in Accra to discuss the 138-page Report which sought to provide an initial insight into the study which seeks to introduce a means of mass passenger transport in the city Accra and its environs.

The Report gave an outline of a road map to guide the feasibility study for the construction of a city rail network as a viable urban transport alternative.

The feasibility study forms the first phase of a two-phase assignment. The first covers various studies involving economic, social, environmental and financial assessments as well as mapping the right-of-way for the development of the project.

The second phase which will commence after the first phase will involve the procurement process for the management of strategic partner(s) who will assist the Government of Ghana to develop the project on a public-private-partnership arrangement.

The Deputy Minister for Railways Development, Hon. Kwaku Agyenim-Boateng, who chaired the Stakeholders meeting for the review of the Inception Report, urged the consortium not to compromise on the quality of their delivery because of the pressure of time lines for the study.

He however, assured the Consortium of the Ministry’s full support should they encounter any form of difficulty that may require the Ministry’s intervention.
