Chairman Wontumi Shows The Way!! Dumps Vigilante Groups As Limited Registration Begins

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako,  aka Chairman Wontumi, has been applauded for showing leadership in the quest by his party to disband all vigilante groups and promote violent free political environment.

The popular NPP Chairman has shown the way in the ongoing EC Limited voters' registration exercise which began on monday across the country, by refraining from using the services of any machomen or vigilante group during his visits to some registration centers in the region.

In a move that has attracted praises from even ardent political critics; the tough talking NPP capo was seen on his tour with a group of journalists from some media outlets in the region.

Exercises like this in the past had often been characterized by intense clashes amongst political opponents who usually enlist the services of machomen to cause mayhem at some registration centres.

A particular point in time was in 2012 when the then ruling NDC allegedly launched onslaughts in some registration centres, resulting in counter attacks from the opposition NPP.

The ensuing clashes led to the transfer of the then Tafo Police Divisional Commander, Mr. Kwasi Ofori, after he was reported to have taken action against some leading members of the ruling party, including Kwaku Boahen.

However, the situation appears to be different this time around,  as the exercise proceeded smoothly without any hindrance.

Chairman Wontumi, in his bid to demonstrate his party's commitment to comply with the directives of the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, has already demanded the dreaded Delta and Invincible Forces.

This was reinforced when he was spotted moving round with the team of media personnel instead of being accompanied by machomen.

According to him, he wanted to "demonstrate to Ghanaians that the NPP will no longer entertain the services any quasi-security groups apart from the police"

He is therefore imploring other political parties, particularly the NDC to denounce its vigilante groups and commit them to the roadmap aimed at ridding the country's politics off all forms violence.
