BNI Officials Arrests Panelists On Top Radio For Unsavoury Remarks About Rawlings

Personnel from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) this morning stormed the studios of an Accra based radio station, Top Radio, and arrested some panelists on the stations breakfast show. The storming of the radio station follows alleged comments made by some panel members on the stations breakfast show that the Rawlingses, the former First Family, may have deliberately set their own Ridge residence on fire. The security officials succeeded in arrested two of the panelists, Nana Adarkwa and George Best, who are said to be sympathizers of the opposition NPP. Host of Top Radios Morning show, Kwesi Fokuoh Kudom, a.k.a. KK, who confirmed the incident in an interview on Peacefm News, said the discussants were deliberating on how best to forestall the rampant fire outbreaks at various state agencies. One of the panel members, Nana Darkwa, who represented the NPP submitted that based on the Independent newspaper and other reports.the demeanour of the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings did not show someone who had been hit by a tragedy.he also alleged that even Kofi Adams (aide to Mr. Rawlings), is on record to have said that the most valuable personal effect that perished in the fire was his (Rawlings) prized swimsuit and flying suit.thus every indication shows that the Rawlingses had a hand in that fire outbreak, Fokuo said. According to the Host, he pointed out to the NPP representative that what might cause a dog to bark, will never even move a cat, hence the reaction by the Rawlingses. I also drew his attention to the fact there are baseless allegations and needed to be substantiated, but he stood his ground and said though he can produced evidence to validate his claims, he wasnt going to do that in the studio, he added. A couple of minutes later, he said, Mr. Rawlings Spokesperson, Kofi Adams walked into the studios in the company of another gentleman who attempted taking pictures of the studio members. He (Kofi) had a friendly chat with me in the studio and later left, K.K said. However, unknown to him, a large crowd of people, made up of mostly NDC fanatics had amassed at the premises of the station. As soon as the programme ended, the NDC supporters demanded evidence from Nana Darkwa, who specifically and emphatically made the allegation and also attempted beating them up but for timely intervention of gun-wielding uniformed and non-uniformed police officers who whisked Nana Adarkwa and George Best away. The two, according to PEACEFM investigations, were later sent to the Accra Central Police where they were made to write their statements and assist in police investigations regarding the on-air comments they passed about the Rawlingses.
