Wereko Brobbey Joins Nana & Alan for NPP's Flagbearership Race

Wereko Brobbey Joins Nana & Alan For NPP's Flagbearership Race Unperturbed by his defeat to Jake Obetsebi Lamptey in the NPPs Chairmanship race on Saturday, Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey has turned his focus to the flagbearer race of the party. He is determined to give perceived front runners Alan Kyeremanteng and Nana Akuffo Addo a good ran for their money in the December race expected to be very keen and fierce. It was seen as a surprise move by analysts when Dr. Wereko Brobbey announced his intention to contest the National Chairmanship race of the NPP. A founding member of the NPP and a stalwart of the Danquah Busia tradition, Dr. Wereko Brobbey played instrumental roles in the partys rebuilding process in the early 1990s; playing lead roles in various demonstrations and civil actions against the then Rawlings led NDC the famous Kume Preko demonstration in 1993 is one case in point. He resigned from the NPP in 1998 and formed his own party, the United Ghana Movement (UGM) on whose ticket he contested the 2000 General elections which was won by J.A Kufuor. During Kufuors tenure of service, he served as the CEO of the Volta River Authority and also presided over the Ghana at Fifty Secretariat which planned the celebration of Ghanas fiftieth birthday celebrations in 2007. The former VRA Boss has not yet announced his official comeback into the NPP, neither has he announced a dissolution of his party the UGM. The question on the lips of many as he seeks to lead the NPP in the 2012 election is What has happened to Dr. Wereko Brobbeys UGM? The NPP National leadership doesnt seem bothered about these hanging issues having given Dr. Wereko Brobbey an opportunity to contest the partys prestigious National Chairmanship position. The ex-Ghana at fifty Boss in an interview with Citi News on Monday, March 1 said it is time for the NPP to move from the perception that two people have been ordained to causing a lot of damage to the party. There is a perception that only two people have been ordained to become the partys flagbearer. I think we need to move away from that perception because thats one problem that the party is facing that there is nothing beyond these two. We need to start widening the net, engaging the people, letting people understand that it is not pre-ordained that two people must contest the flagbearership...I just want the pressure taken off the fight between these two people which is causing enormous damage to the NPP. Dr. Wereko Brobbey says the pillars on which the NPP stands to contest the NDC in 2010 are shaky and if the NPP does not move in time to correct the mishaps, it could cost it in 2012.
