The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, has emphasised the need for the supporters of the party to come together and work hard to send the ruling government back to opposition due to its poor performance.
He said the time has come for NPP members to stop thinking about the causes of their defeat and concentrate on the strategies and policies that will bring them back to power in the 2012 parliamentary and presidential elections.
Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey made these remarks at a retreat to usher in the new executives at Mankessim, in the Mfantseman District of the Central Region, yesterday. The three-day retreat was attended by both the out-going and the incoming new executives of the party. He hinted that NDC members are confounded by the peaceful manner in which the party elected its new executives, hence the need to set up campaign committees.
�NPP stands out as the most regionally balanced elected executives ever seen in Ghana�s multiparty democracy due to the kind of people elected at their delegates� conference held at Baba Yara Sports Stadium recently,� he added.
Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey, who was once a Minister for Tourism and Diaspora Relations during the Kufuor Administration, expressed concern about the way the state had refused to encourage people to lawfully work hard and acquire property for themselves as well as provide an enabling environmental for individuals to use their God-given talents.
The National Chairman indicated that the eight-year-rule of NPP was a manifestation of effectiveness of the party�s philosophies and their ideologies aimed at improving the economy and to reduce poverty substantially.
Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey stated that the national incidence of poverty declined from 35% in 1998 and 1999 to 28.5% in 2005, making the country benefit from the Millennium Development Goals of halving extreme poverty by 2015.
He said the NDC government lacks vision, promising NPP�s commitment to help end NDC�s lack of motion and their disrespect for law and further restore hope in them.
In an interview with the former Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, on what was going to happen to some constituencies such as (KEEA) that had problems in their constituency elections, he said there are plans to re-organize elections to enable peace to prevail.
