Government Will Respect Agreement

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has said existing contractual obligations signed between government and mining companies in the country will be adhered to by government at all times. The Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. Seth Tekpeh gave the assurance in Parliament following a question by Hon. Edward Ennin, MP for Obuasi. Hon Ennin wanted to know whether contractual obligations existing between mining companies and government will be respected as government implements the new royalty rate of 5% for mining companies which was introduced recently. Mr. Tekpeh said government will never do anything against the agreement reached with the mining companies before the introduction of the new royalty rate.
