Ghana Election 2020: North Tongu Constituency – A Clash Between Okudjeto Ablakwa & Collins Arku

North Tongu constituency is located in the Volta Region of Ghana and it’s considered a safe seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to 1996 to 2016 election statistics, the NDC consecutively wins both presidential and parliamentary elections with a huge margin.

In 2016 for instance, the Presidential candidate for the NDC, John Mahama scored 90.1% in this constituency.

Meanwhile, the incumbent Member of Parliament for this constituency, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwah has predicted a 98% win for Mr Mahama and himself in the upcoming December 7 elections.

However, Richard Collins Arku, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate who contested and lost heavily in 2016 to Ablakwa has sworn to unseat him coming December 7.

“We are working seriously, I am telling you. There are a lot of things happening if you get to the grassroots and I am confident I am going to win the seat for the first time" he has stated in an interview.

Whether or not this is possible, only time will tell.
