Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker has commissioned Mfante Community Mining Scheme at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North Municipality in the Ashanti Region.

Commissioning the Scheme on behalf of the sector Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, at a durbar of Chiefs, Hon. Mireku Duker outlined the Community Mining Scheme concept and the government's commitment to use it as an alternative livelihood employment module to mitigate illegal mining.

Hon. Mireku Duker, who doubles as Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, made this known in a statement copied to Peacefmonline.

"The 50-acre concession is estimated to create some 2,000 and 1,000s of direct and indirect jobs respectively. On behalf of government and its commitment to protect our environment through responsible mining, I donated a Mercury-Free Gold Processing Unit worth US$125,000.00 to support the Scheme", portions of the statement read.
