I Was Not Slapped Twice: Tony Aidoo

In his desperate attempt to demonise President Mills before some delegates of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Teye Nyaunu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower Manya disclosed that the NDC government under the leadership of President Mills had failed to give justice to Dr. Tony Aidoo who was assaulted by a security officer at the time when former President Kufuor was in power. The MP alleged that, Dr. Tony Aidoo was given two hefty slaps by the security office at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra and all attempt to get he then IGP to intervene proved futile. In a sharp contrast however, Dr. Tony Aidoo who is a leading member of the NDC and head of government policy at the presidency has revealed that, it was never true that he was given two hefty slaps by the said security personnel. He also denied that the incident happened at the Kwame Nkrumah circle and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at that time failed to intervene when he made a complain to him. In a radio interview yesterday, Dr. Tony Aidoo explained that, there was indeed some misunderstanding between him and the said security officer and it happened at Adabraka but not Kwame Nkrumah Circle as Mr. Nyaunu wanted the whole world to believe. In terms of keeping the record straight following the allegations put forward by Teye Nyaunu, yes I was assaulted but I was never slapped twice during the incident at Adabraka but the said security officer rather slipped his hand in my face. It is also incorrect that there were two people involved and was incorrect that I called the IGP. It was a lady standing by who rather called Joy fm and reported the incident to them after witnessing everything, he explained. He said, in as much as he appreciates the call by Mr. Nyaunu that politics under the NPP regime was very vindictive, the status quo should not be maintained by the NDC government.I know the person who assaulted me and many people know him. Sin ce we came to power he has been working with the National Security and I have forgiven him. I never called for his dismissal even though many people had wished I do that, he stated. Dr. Tony Aidoo noted that, the country cannot continue to subject its constitutional progress to vindictive politics and what is important is the social and economic development of the people. As a party, we all have our grievances but it does not mean an action should be taken to disintegrate the party and it is important we all take note of that, he added.
