President Mills Cuts Sod For Asamankese-Suhum Road

PRESIDENT JOHN Evans Atta Mills yesterday cut the sod for the construction of the Asamankese-Suhum road to be undertaken by two contractors within 18 months at a cost of GH�10.5 million. The 33.8km stretch of road which links the Eastern Region to the Central Region has been in a terrible state and has also become a huge source of worry for motorists plying the road. The road, which is one of the major and important roads in the Eastern region, last saw major rehabilitation in 1995. Muudu Construction Ltd and Messers Naggestine Ltd are the two contractors who would be carrying out the construction which would be in two phases. Cutting the sod to signify the beginning of work after attending a durbar of chiefs and people in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar in the Eastern region, the president said the Suhum-Asamankese road was an important road for the people in the area and the region as a whole. He added that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was therefore committing GH�10.5 million for the construction of the road. According to the president, the Better Agenda of the NDC was intended to improve the lives of the people not only in the Eastern region but the whole of Ghana.
