Dr. Sekou Nkrumah : Ill Never Campaign For President Mills

Almost a year after being relieved of the post of acting Coordinator of the National Youth Council, son of Ghanas first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Sekou Nkrumah is yet to come to terms with the manner in which he was fired. Speaking on XFM's morning show, 'The Big Bite' on Thursday June 2, 2011, on a wide range of issues in connection with the June 4 celebrations, Sekou felt that even though the President had the right to sack him, he said he regretted the manner in which he was booted out of office, saying categorically 'in fact I will never accept any job from Professor Mills'. Dr Sekou Nkrumahs appointment was terminated by President John Mills following his comments in the African Watch magazine criticizing the President's slow pace in ruling the country. Sekou is also quoted to have stated that a lot of people see President Mills as an academic and a gentleman. But, in the political arena, you need to be strong-minded, and it looks like this leadership quality is missing in Mills. The termination of his appointment came a few days later and even though he said then that he bore no grudge, Dr Sekou has stated otherwise. He said, because of that publication in the Africa Watch magazine, within three days, I was fired; I thought that was not very fair. Yes, you can have the right to fire me; because you gave me the job, but the point is that, I expected you to call me, we sit one-on-one and then you explain the situation Ill have no problem with that. Shifting his attention to the NDC, Dr Sekou Nkrumah described as most unfortunate some people's quest to separate the NDC from Rawlings, adding that the party has to celebrate June 4 because it is connected to the birth of the revolution and cannot run away from it. He debunked the notion, that he was a staunch supporter of the former First Lady, stressing, he is a supporter of change and Nana Konadu seems to be the best candidate for that agenda instead of the sitting President. He was happy that Dr. Ekwow Spio Gabrah withdrew his candidacy, saying 'between her and Professor Mills, I think she will be a better leader, she is more dynamic, energetic and very driven'. On why he decided to join the NDC and not the CPP, he said' it was on ideological basis with reference to the social democratic nature of the NDC saying he doesnt share in the vision of his father's founded party, the CPP.
