Former NDC Central Regional Chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs says the leadership of New Patriotic Party should take Kennedy Agyapong's endorsement of the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for Running Mate seriously.

The Assin Central Member of Parliament and former Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, addressing some delegates of the party at Bantama in Ashanti Region described Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the only credible individual to partner the party's flagbearer, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

 “If you go to NAPO’s office, you will be marveled at the way he relates with party people. He takes care of party people. If we had 5 of his kind in the party, NPP would have been better off and far ahead of the NDC. Given the current circumstances where many of our members are despondent, selecting NAPO will be the only way to bring back the needed energy for victory in the 2024 elections”, he said.

Hon. Kennedy Agyapong stressed the only way he was going to campaign for the NPP in the 2024 elections is when the flagbearer selects the Energy Minister, popularly called 'NAPO', as his Running Mate.

 “The only way I will campaign for the NPP is for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to be named as the Running Mate…That will be the most credible ticket to beat John Mahama”, he insisted.

Speaking to host Nana Yaw Kesseh during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Allotey Jacobs noted that Kennedy Agyapong is no ordinary person in the NPP, hence his words carry great weight.

To him, for Kennedy to endorse NAPO should mean a great deal to the New Patriotic Party and also tell the significance of a Bawumia/Matthew Opoku Prempeh match into the December elections.

"What Kennedy...said that he will campaign for the party if NAPO is nominated as the Running Mate, the party should take it serious...This man (Kennedy Agyapong) got 37.1% (in the NPP presidential election). He has positioned himself as a potential leading member of the NPP that in case of anything, you will have a lot of people rallying behind him...He hasn't become ambitious to become a Running Mate but he has a choice", he remarked.
