We Can't Give You Honeymoon; We're Already Behind As A Nation - Lecturer Tells Mahama

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a governance lecturer, has replied to former President and leader of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, over his request for a honeymoon if re-elected into government.

John Mahama, addressing attendees at a 'Campus Connect' event in Hohoe in Volta Region, called on Ghanaians, especially the labour unions, to give him a grace period if he's elected president.

This, he aims to have in order to put the economy in better shape since, to him, the ruling NPP has collapsed it.

“And you will realize the harm that the NPP administration has done to Ghana’s economy. This country is broke, and so we will beg you that when we come into office, give us a bit of a honeymoon; let’s put things in place so that we bring the economy back onto its  feet," he said.

Discussing Mahama's comments during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah found it unconvincing for the former President to demand a honeymoon.

According to him, Ghana is not ready to issue a honeymoon to any president, as, to him, there is no time to waste but for the president-elect to begin work right away after his swearing-in.

"We haven't made up our minds as a nation to allow any person to go on honeymoon. We are already behind. No, honeymoon. Maybe he has an explanation for it, but once we hand over power to you and you are sworn in, you need to be in office the next morning and start work," he argued.
