Presidential Staffer Assists Widows

Mrs. Helen Annan, a Senior Communications Director at the Office of the president, has donated a cheque for GH�600 to the Komenda Widows and Orphans Movement to mark UN International Day of Widows at a ceremony in Komenda. The ceremony was attended by over 40 widows and their children. The donation was to assist the group to acquire seedlings and spraying machines for their farming activities. Mrs. Annan, wife of the Deputy Minister of Trade and MP for KEEA, commended the efforts of Mrs. Comfort Darko, president and founder of the organisaton, for her initiative and selfless efforts to alleviate the challenges facing widows and orphans in the community. She said the �Better Ghana� agenda of Presidents Mills would only be achieved through private and individual efforts as demonstrated by members of Komenda Widows and Orphans Movement. As a patron, she pledged her continued support, promising to explore export avenues for the groups farm produce. The Komenda Widows and Orphans Movement, a non-partisan organization, was established in 2008 as a social platform to alleviate challenges facing widows and orphans in the community. Its aim is to empower members to be self-sufficient and to encourage them to face challenges with dignity and courage by getting into farming, agro-industry and cottage industry.
