Teachers To Embark On Hunger Strike

The leaders of the Coalition of Concerned Teaches say scores of their members will gather in Accra Tuesday July 12 to embark on a hunger strike. Their strike according to them is to protest what they say is the incompetence of the executives of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). The hunger strike comes days after the executive committee of GNAT expelled the leaders and members of the coalition. The spokesperson of the coalition Ernest Opoku, in an interview with Citi News said the reason for todays strike are legitimate and no amount of intimidation will stop them from going ahead with their plan. We are going to demonstrate and the teachers are coming in their numbers. Ashanti Region I have been told more than 20 buses are coming, in the Eastern Region too I hear more than 20 buses are on their way, GNAT does not belong to any body it belongs to teachers. The Union belongs to teachers across the country and all the questions we have raised are legitimate questions.
