Police Fire Gunshots As Hawkers And AMA Clash

Police have fired warning shots around the Graphic road in an attempt to disperse some hawkers who were involved in a brawl with members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly task force. Reports reaching Citi News indicate about five hawkers have been arrested after the shooting. According to reports, the hawkers were angered by the decision of the AMA task force to seize their items. The police were called in to intervene resulting in the firing of the gun shots. Ophelia Bema-Kusi, an eye witness told Citi News the hawkers resisted moves by the members of the AMA task force to seize their products and to prevent them from selling on the streets. The AMA wanted to seize their yams and the things that they were selling but they (hawkers) became rebellious so the police intervened and fired gunshots that dispersed the people. Reports indicate that there is heavy Police presence at the Graphic road to maintain peace and order and to ensure that the hawkers do not return to the streets. Presently the hawkers have dispersed but we still have the Police and the AMA around and about four or five people have been arrested the eye witness said.
