Private Developer Defies KMA

Peacefmonline.com can confirm that contrary to directives of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), a private developer is constructing a mosque at a Nature Reserve site at Kaase, a Heavy Industrial Area near Ahodwo, a residential suburb of Kumasi. The architect behind this construction is F.A FANJ, a Heavy Duty Equipment manufacturer. Sampson Nyamekye, a Senior Reporter with HelloFM, a Kumasi-based radio station, who is following up on the story reports that his checks with the KMA reveals no permit has been issued to the private developer to put up the mosque at the buffer zone. According to him, he has defied repeated warnings by the city authorities to halt the construction. Meanwhile, residents in the area have vehemently protested against citing the mosque at the Nature Reserve Zone which they claim can lead to loss of lives and property in the event of a heavy downpour, more so with the raining season having set in. Residents are apprehensive because the exact location of mosque is blocking the free flow of running water which could lead to some serious flooding. Quite recently, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu urged the city authorities to demolish all illegal structures springing up in the metropolis. But perhaps, this project might be exceptional, Sampson says.
