What Ghanaians Expect From Mr & Mrs Rawlings' Book

For 19 years, they were the First Couple in the Republic of Ghana and now, each has decided to complete an autobiography within the next 12 months. I am referring to ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and his double sweetheart, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. These autobiographies will be best sellers for two reasons. The first is that, it will give many Ghanaians, in-depth accounts on three important eras in Ghanas history. These are the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) era of June 4, September 22, 1979; the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era of 31st. December, 1981 to January 6, 1993 and the January 7, 1993 to January 6, 2001 era of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The second and more interesting will be the reaction of some of the persons who are likely to feature prominently in these autobiographies including Capt. (rtd) Kojo Tsikata; Major (rtd) Kojo Boakye-Djan; ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor; President John Atta Mills; the Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. and Professor Kwamena Ahwoi. From the list above, only President Mills and Capt. Tsikata are likely to hold their peace when they disagree with certain aspects of the book by Jerry Rawlings. However, the rest-John Kufuor, Boakye-Djan, Kweku Baako and Kwamena Ahwoi will not hesitate to set the records straight in the event of some facts being controversial. What do Ghanaians expect from the book by the ex-President? What they expect, we believe will be in answers to these questions: 1. How deeply involved was Rawlings in the May 15, 1979 failed Uprising? 2. The process of Rawlings release from the BNI cells on June 4, 1979, to the GBC studios; 3. How the AFRC was set up; 4. The processes of the June 4, 1979 trials; 5. How the decisions to execute eight senior Army Officers, including three former Heads of State were arrived at; 6. Was it true (as per some published works) that as Rawlings handed over to the late President Hilla Limann on September 23, 1979, he had started planning how to undertake another coup, to remove him? 7. How the December 31, 1981 coup was planned and executed; 8. The formation of the PNDC and how it operated; 9. Key roles played by leading PNDC members like Capt. Tsikata; Mr. P.V. Obeng; the late Justice D.F. Annan; Dr. (Mrs) Mary Grant; etc. 10. The processes leading to the return of constitutional rule in 1992; 11. How the NDC party was formed; 12. The relationship between Rawlings and one of his former Vice Presidents, the late Mr. K. N. Arkaah (Jan. 1993-Jan. 6,1997); 13. How was the relationship between Rawlings and his Vice, Prof. Atta Mills (Jan. 1997-Jan. 6 2001 14. What was really happening between the first round and run-off in the 2000 presidential elections? 15. The truth behind the financing of the education of his children and purchase of a house in Ireland; 16. How come the relationship between Rawlings and his former Vice, Atta Mills, has gone so sour; 17. Rawlings candid views on the election of NDC national executives in Tamale and the election of the NDC flagbearer in Sunyani - how does Rawlings feel about his waning influence in the U.S? 18. Jerry Rawlings political future. Regarding Nana Konadu, Ghanaians will want her to clear the air on some issues like: a. The harassment she suffered in the run-up to May 15, 1979; June 4; after the handing over in September, 1979 and after January 7, 2001; b. The circumstances of how the keys of the vehicle which was used in the murder of the judges was found on her dining table at home; c. The truth in reports that she was virtually a co-President in the 19 years his husband was President; d. The truth about the formation of the 31st December Womens Movement- the real founding member; why in the absence of funding by the Municipal and District Assemblies in the Kufuor and Mills administrations, the Movement has collapsed; e. Who deceived Nana Konadu with opinion polls that Nana was very popular among delegates in the run-up to the Sunyani Congress to elect the partys 2012 flagbearer; * Nana Konadus political future..
