Zongo Women Push For Konadu

ZONGO WOMEN in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital are pushing former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings to contest for president in the upcoming general elections, promising her their unwavering support should she heed their call to contest the highest seat of the land in 2012. The Zongo women have also appealed to former President Rawlings and his wife not to campaign for President Mills and his group of corrupt ministers in the 2012 general elections. According to them, Nana Konadu has demonstrated beyond every reasonable doubt that she is competent, credible, visionary and ready to properly steer the affairs of the country to prosperity as president. The group answers to the name Zongo Women for Nana Konadu 2012, and is made up of staunch National Democratic Congress (NDC) members with branches all across the country. Speaking at a large press conference held at Akotia Line in Kumasi on Tuesday, Hadiza Abubakar, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the group said we want to assure Nana Konadu that we are strongly behind her and also to ask her to present herself for election 2012 and we will support her. The group noted that Nana Konadus loss at the NDC congress did not mean she is no longer a force reckon with saying we want the leadership of the party not to deceive themselves that the 90 delegates that they say voted for Nona Konadu are her only supporters in the party. The Zongo women said they and the grass roots members who are the pillars of the NDC are solidly behind Nana Konadu and would not hesitate to throw their support behind her should she heed to their call and contest for the presidency. They were of the view that Nana Konadus loss was stage- managed. We actually think that there was no contest in Sunyani due to the cowardice, naked fear and intimidation that went on. Madam Abubakar alleged that delegates were given GH500 each and were ordered to take pictures of their cast ballots to be shown to the ministers and DCEs who were seated among them. She said also delegates were forced to wear Mills t-shirts, despite an order that the t-shirts of candidates were banned on the day of election, stressing that NDC delegates voted for President Mills via inducement. With a grim face, the PRO implored the Rawlingses to leave President Mills and his corrupt ministers to their fate during election 2012 and we will all see the results. She lamented the way and manner that former President Rawlings and his family were hooted at and disgraced during the NDC congress for no apparent reason, adding the NDC as a political party would soon regret what they did that day. The Zongo women concluded by thanking President Mills and his vice for destroying the NDC, warning them that during elections, every single vote counts therefore their decision to kick some people out of the party would haunt them later on.
