Chief Justice Sacks Two Judges

Information reaching peacefmonline.com indicates that the Judicial Council has dismissed two judges for acts of improper conduct, gross misconduct and bribery. The dismissal of the two, a male and a female, follows investigations by a fact finding committee constituted by the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood that confirmed reports that the two indeed did took bribes from some interested parties in cases they were adjudicating. They were found guilty of the allegations by a five-member committee which was chaired by a High Court judge. The two were thus sent packing on August 30. Peacefmonline.com sources say one of the magistrates was stationed in the Greater Accra Region while the other was based in the Brong Ahafo Region. The female judge, Linda Aklamanu was based at the Juvenile court in Accra, but the name of the male judge, based in Berekum, is yet to be ascertained. Judicial Secretary, Justice Alex Poku-Acheampong, who confirmed the report to JoyFM also added that; "This report was submitted to the Judicial Council and the findings of improper conduct, gross misconduct and bribery were established against them.� "The action taken by the council is an indication that any wrongdoing within the Judicial Service would not be tolerated...The Judicial Council, in keeping with constitutional provisions as stipulated under Article 151, decided to dismiss the magistrates based on the committee's report...Where there is an allegation of corruption, and there is evidence and it is proved as was done in this case� the administration, the Chief Justice and her team are ready to deal with corruption,� the Judicial Secretary stressed.
