4 Armed Robbers Sentenced To 160 Years

Four people have been sentenced to a total of 160 years in hard labour for robbing four lodgers of Gabi Guest House at Amanfrom near Kasoa. Sunday Edze, Kelvin Asabre, and Kofi Adamba who pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy and robbery, were each sentenced to 50 years, while Samuel Cudjoe was sentenced to 10 years for possessing narcotics. At about 9:30 pm, Edze, on April last year, Asabre and Adamba, stormed Gabi Guest House and stole $9,300, 6,250 Swiss passport, a digital camera, one, I-phone mobile, a Benz saloon car, three wrist watches, one of which is gold watch, and gold bracelet, two Nokia mobile phones valued at GH�400, one ATM card, and GH� 320 belonging to Police Inspector Emmanuel Ofori, David Donkor, Cynthia Nyarko and Nana Kodjo Effah who were lodging in the guest house. Cudjoe was mentioned by the robbers as an accomplice and was arrested the same day in his house at Dome in Accra. The Presiding Judge, Mr. Eric Kyei Baffour, convicted them on their own plea after the prosecution ended its case. He said the sentence was to serve as a deterrent to others engaged in armed robbery. Prosecuting, State Attorney Panin Yena said that on that day, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command had a tip off that a group of armed robbers had attacked a guest house at Amanfrom, near Kasoa. He said policemen then mounted surveillance at the scene and arrested Edze, who had fractured his right leg while fleeing from the robbery scene. The prosecutor said upon interrogation, Edze admitted the office and mentioned the name of his accomplices. He stated that on April 18, the police further had information that the other robbers who escaped were to meet at a warehouse located at North Industrial Area to share their booty. Prosecutor Panin Yena said the police located the place and arrested Kelvin and Adamba who had on them $900, GH� 7,700, 190 pounds sterling, 11 wrist watches, 12 mobile phones, a digital camera and a foreign pistol. He said that upon interrogation, the robbers admitted the offence and stated that the items were forcibly taken from their victims at the Gabi Guest House. Panin Yena said the police traced Samuel Cudjoe, who was mentioned as an accomplice, to Dome and after a search in his room, the police found a quantity of dried green leaves suspected to be Indian hem p concealed in a black polythene bag and he admitted ownership of the substance.
