The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Tuesday sworn into office a nine-member executive to steer the affairs of the Union.
The new executives headed by Osman Ayariga, a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), would steer the affairs of the Union for a year.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Hamza Suhuyini, outgoing NUGS President, called on politicians to desist from interfering in the affairs of NUGS as it did not augur well for its growth.
He noted that the Union was not in leadership crisis as speculated by some media outlets but rather focused and determined to work on behalf of the student body in the country.
He pledged his commitment towards the new administration and urged them to work assiduously for the betterment of students and Ghanaians as a whole.
Mr Suhuyini appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to pay attention to concerns raised by political parties about the biometric registration in order to boost their (political parties) confidence in them.
He urged political leaders to desist from the use of abusive language as the country geared towards presidential and parliamentary elections next year.
In his acceptance speech, Osman Ayariga bemoaned the seizure of the Union�s bus and the freezing of its account following an electoral dispute, as some of the challenges facing it as of now.
He pledged to inject sanity and unity into the Union and urged members to support him and his administration to that effect.
He called on the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports to partner them in their discharge of their duties for the betterment of all.
The new executives are: Mr Osman Ayariga (KNUST), President; Mr Tafhim Ali (IPS), General Secretary; Mr Samuel Nio Mensah (IPS), Treasurer; Mr Isreal Veunye Tornyehlor (IPS), Coordinating Secretary; Mr Basil Pomerol (IPS), Financial Controller; Mr Cyril Xatse Dzinyanu (KNUST), International Relations Officer; Miss Ernestina Ofoe (IPS), Women�s Commissioner; Mr Emmanuel Paddy (UDS), Education and Demonstration Secretary; Mr Eric Amponsah (UDS), Programes and Project Secretary.
