New Technology For Agriculture Waste

A new technology which will aid in the conversion of agricultural waste into valuable biodegradable products has been presented to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) today in Accra. The initiative is to help the ministry and stakeholders in the agricultural sector reduce the plastic menace and environmental pollution in the country. The Director of Institute of Eco-Material China, Xian Jian Da and Prof Zhou Mouzhi who double as the inventors of the technology said biodegradable products are good and can prevent pollution because they become part of the soil when exposed to elements of the weather after usage. According to him waste agricultural products like rice husk, sugar cane, wheat and corn husk can be used to produce flower pots, disposable table wares, food trays, bowls, cup holders and egg trays. Mr Mouzhi stated that the objective is to create wealth for Africas poor communities as well as encourage African countries stimulate export of green products and take advantage of the $300 billion supply deficit on the world market. The President of Africa to Green International, urged farmers and MOFA to adopt the green park technology which is also known as the Yanging Jiaxing Flower Farm Cooperative, noting that the technology gives higher yields than the open planting. Adding that green house technology grows and yields seedlings to farmeers to form their own green house and also sell to their colleague farmers for profit. He said the green house technology gives the plant a long life span and it is healthy. She mentioned flowers and vegetables as some plants that grow well under the green house technology. The National Coordinator for Youth in Agriculture, Alhaji Adam Mahama, expressed the opinion that agricultural waste is enormous as compared to industrial waste; adding that the end product can be used by farmers to store their products where necessary. He therefore called on District Assemblies to embrace the technology as the factory concept can help decompose waste and create jobs for the communities. The Deputy Director, Agric Engineering Services Directorate, Mr E.O. Oppong, charged the Chinese inventors to consider the rural folks and study the scales of farming in the country as well as the economy so that they can also benefit effectively.
