Agogo Youth Beat Up Fulani To Pulp

Some youth in Agogo of the Ashanti region of Ghana have resorted to vigilante tactics to flush out Fulanis in the area. According to them, the security agencies are not helping in that regard. This follows Mondays reported shooting of two residents by a suspected Fulani gunman. The residents of Agogo have repeatedly called for the eviction of the nomads whom they accuse of committing several crimes including robbery, murder and rape in the community. There is currently a seeming confusion arising from comments made by the National Security Advisor Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah and the National Security Coordinator Col (rtd) Larry Gbevlo Lartey, both of whom are prescribing different solutions to the crisis. A member of the Agogo Youth Group, Felix Owusu Anane, told Citi News they are appalled by the security services handling of the issue. They have therefore decided to resort to instant justice on the Fulanis. Yesterday, one Fulani was mercilessly beaten at a suburb of Agogo," he said. "I do not know what he was coming to do in town but because we got a report that two people had been shot, the mere sight of the person angered the youth." It took the intervention of the police before they were able to rescue him, so we are very angry. We are not taking anything apart from the cattle leaving our land." Meanwhile, the Agogo Police said they are searching for suspects of Mondays shooting incident in one of the farming communities. The two residents were reportedly shot on their farm by an unidentified gunman suspected to be Fulanis. The Agogo District Police Commander, DSP Nana Ekow Yawson, told Citi News, weve not made any arrests but we are still seriously investigating. Trust the police to be on top of events like this, this is not the first time that such incident has happened and the police have always come out tops. Just give us the benefit of the doubt as police.
