Kombians Victim In Critical Condition

Lance Corporal Osei Bonsu, one of the surviving cops who were ambushed and shot by the notorious criminal, Johnson Kombian exactly a year ago in Nakpanduri in the Northern region, is currently in critical condition, DAILY GUIDE can confirm. The policeman and his colleagues Constables Owusu-Frimpong and Prince Agyare were shot by the notorious criminal at Nakpanduri in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the region while on operational duties. Johnson Kombian, who escaped from the Tamale Central Prison, opened fire on the policemen killing Constable Prince Agyare instantly. Constable Owusu-Frimpong died later, but Lance Corporal Osei Bonsu was initially rushed to the Baptist Medical Centre (BMC) in Nalerigu and transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital. He was flown to the Police Hospital in Accra on the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Paul Tawiah Quaye. His condition, DAILY GUIDE has gathered, has not improved since the bullets are still in his leg. Relations of the policeman fear he might die if nothing is done in the interim to save his life. DAILY GUIDE gathered that an expert from South Africa who visited the country earlier this year offered to save the life of the wounded cop but the police administration failed to secure funds to carry out a successful operation. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the 37 Military Hospital where he currently survives on pain killers. A friend of the policeman, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity, bemoaned the neglect of the policeman. Meanwhile reports in the Tamale Metropolis and Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District suggest that Johnson Kombian, the notorious jail breaker is likely to break jail before the end of the year 2011 to assist a particular political party achieve its ambitions. According to reports, one Idiata, a former employee of Senya Motors in Tamale, is peddling rumors that her brother Johnson Kombian will successfully break jail by the close of the year to aid the said party to win four seats in the north eastern corridor of Northern region, where Kombian will terrorize members of the opposing parties. According to reports in Tamale and Bunkpurugu, Idiata led Chabinan, Kombians wife, who was arrested together with Kombian and one Akua, to visit him at the Nsawam Prisons. The Idiata is expected to send some food containing concoction to Kombian to facilitate his escape from the Nsawam Prison. Many residents have called on the security agencies to boost security to foil the plan. It would be recalled that Kombian, who fled to Togo, was arrested in November 2010 with assistance of Interpol. The three-time jail breaker was arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court after his arrest and extradition from Togo and charged with escape from lawful custody, contrary to Section 226 of Act 29/60. He is currently serving a six-year prison term for breaking jail and will be arraigned before court for the murder of two policemen and other charges. From Stephen Zoure, Tamale
