3 Fugitives Arrested

Three of the suspected criminals who allegedly escaped from cells at the Kade Police Station in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 have been arrested. Two of them, identified as Nana Yaw Botwe, 21, and Kwabena Nimako, 28, were arrested in the bush at Kwae in the Kwaebibirem District about 6 p.m. while the fugitives were in the company of palm wine tappers. Earlier, the police had succeeded in arresting one of the escapees, Kwame Victor, 22, in the vicinity of the police station on the day they escaped from cell. The two were among the four suspected criminals, including Sumailah Iddrisu, 29, and Kwame Victor, who broke cells about 8 p.m. last Wednesday. The suspects escaped after they had hit the head of a policeman on duty with a thick wood and pushed down another policewoman on duty, Corporal Akyaa Gyamfe. The policeman, who sustained serious injuries on the head, was rushed to the Great Consolidated Diamonds Hospital at Akwatia for treatment. Confirming the arrest to the Daily Graphic, the Kade Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Stephen Dela Dorde, said the police received an intelligence report that two of the criminals who escaped police cells had been seen in a bush at Kwae. He said a team of armed policemen dispatched to the area saw Nana Yaw and Nimako in the company of some palm wine tappers and when the police made an attempt to effect their arrest, the two put up violent resistance. The Kade Police Commander said the police had mounted an intensive search for Iddrisu and appealed to the public to help effect his arrest.
