Odehye Boateng Slaughter's Sheep To Destool Okyenhene

A Day after he was fined 72 sheep and 36 crates of Schnapps by the Okyeman Council for accusing Okyenhene, Amoatia Ofori-Panin, of involvement in illegal mining in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Odehye Kwame Adjei Boateng stormed the Ofori Panin Fie Palace at Kyebi to slaughter a sheep to mark the destoolment of the Okyenhene. Odehye Boateng of the Asona Royal Family was reportedly accompanied by five macho men who went to the palace in three vehicles with a brown sheep to slaughter about 3 p.m on Saturday. The act was committed at a time when the Okyenhene was attending the 50th Golden Jubilee of the Ofori Panin Senior High School (SHS) at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region. Following the incident, the Okyeman Council has instituted a 24-hour tight security, known as Amantoamiesa at the Ofori Panin Fie as part of measures to protect the Black Stool of Okyeman. Prior to the slaughter of the sheep, the macho men were reported to have positioned themselves at strategic points outside the Ofori Panin Fie Palace and the two security men who were guarding the palace were said to have fled for their lives. Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, a solicitor of the Okyeman Council, Mr Kwame Acheampong Boateng, said the incident was allegedly committed at a time when the town was virtually calm and quiet. He said the Okyenhene had been invited as the guest of honour to the Ofori Panin SHS Golden Jubilee, while most of the residents of the area had travelled to Accra to attend the wedding ceremony of a prominent citizen of the town. Narrating what happened, Mr Boateng said when the Okyenhene and his entourage arrived at the ceremony on Saturday he was told that Odehye Boateng had allegedly slaughtered a sheep at the palace but when he returned to Kyebi, Odehye Boateng had left the place. When contacted, the Kyebi Police Commander, DSP Ohene Gyan, confirmed the slaughter of a sheep at the forecourt of the Ofori Panin Fie Palace by Odehyee Kwame Adjei Boateng and some macho men. He, however, indicated that a number of armed youth of the town, believed to be supporters of the Okyenhene, who later heard that a sheep had been slaughtered, rushed to the palace in a number of vehicles and fired warning shots indiscriminately. He said that while the youth were roaming the streets of Kyebi, they spotted the NPP Constituency Secretary for Abuakwa South,Mr Yaw Bampoh, and suspecting him to be involved in the whole incident, assaulted him before using machetes to deflate the tyres of his vehicle. Unfortunately, at the time the sheep was slaughtered, Yaw Bampoh was out of Kyebi, said the police commander, who indicated that the police had mounted a search for the arrest of the youth who beat Mr Bampoh.
