Chaos Looms As Abudus Threaten Parallel Authority

The Abudu Royals in Dagbon have threatened to create a parallel authority in the Dagbon State following the enskinment of a new chief for the vacant Savelugu skin. A new chief was on Monday, November 28 enskinned by the Regent of Dagbon, the Kampakuya-Naa which has heightened tension in the Dagbon State. The Abudus had earlier threatened a demonstration against the enskinment which they had described as illegal and uncustomary. They accused government of conniving with the rival Andani royal family to violate the Roadmap to Peace in Dagbon. Abubakari Zakariah Nachin-Naa, the Boling-Lanas youth chief hinted the Abudus determination to enskin chiefs in their strongholds in the Dagbon State if the Kampakuya-Naa continued acting contrary to the roadmap to peace document. He described the Boling-Lana, Abdulai Mahamadu, as a worthy successor to the Savelugu skin but that could not be possible until the funeral of the late Naa-Mahamadu Abdulai was performed. He challenged government to show neutrality in the matter by referring the matter back to the Eminent Chiefs led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to continue with the mediation exercise. Meanwhile, the Saha-Naa Latif, spokesperson to the Gukpegu Regent on the Andani side said any attempt by the Abudus to create a parallel authority in Dagbon risks plunging the area into chaos.
