The Attorney General Is Politically Doomed - Bature

The Managing Editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature has called for the immediate resignation of Ghanas Attorney General (A-G), Martin Amidu for what he describes as denigration of the presidency and the NDC party. According to Alhaji Bature, the statement issued by the Attorney General to express his dissatisfaction over attacks on him by some pro-NDC media houses exposes the bitterness in him for not being appointed as the A-G immediately President Mills took over office in 2009. The A-G, in a press release has described sections of the pro-government press as a partisan and rented NDC press group who perceive that I am not performing the duties of my office in their partisan political interests. Mr. Martin Amidu said a colleague Minister of State, who perceived that my integrity and professionalism as a lawyer was a threat to the concealment of gargantuan crimes against the people of Ghana connived to unleash the gullible section of the NDC press on me by the leakage of official documents from my ministry through the perverse section of a rented NDC press to the public beginning the 3rd of January 2012. He also stressed that he was compelled to take up the position as AG; As for the section of the rented NDC press calling for my removal or dismissal from office, I wish to assure them that I never begged to be appointed Attorney-General: I opposed it on four separate occasions. However, speaking on Asempa Fm on Tuesday, Alhaji Bature noted that the A-G should have resigned immediately he said I never begged to be appointed Attorney-General: I opposed it four separate occasions. Immediately Martin Amidu made that statement, the next paragraph he should have added was that I am tendering in my resignation as a minister because it is a disgrace... Martin Amidu has lost the legitimacy to remain in office as a minister. He asserted that the actions of the Attorney General were aimed at embarrassing the President and the NDC. What is he doing? Is it to embarrass the President, the NDC, his colleague ministers or the government? Mr. Alhaji Iddrisu Bature noted that the minister thought he was exhibiting courage but said in life there is courage and foolish courage, and that what the minister sought to do was risky. Look this action of the A-G is not courage, this is like the Gaddafi type of courage where he (Gaddafi) was calling his people rats and now who are the rats? Amidu, who are they. This is the Gbagbo type of courage not a proper courage. He said the Attorney General is politically doomed as far as Ghanaian and NDC politics is concerned due to the mess he has created for himself. Martin, you have lost it. You need not to be at post for even a minute or a day after subjecting the President to public ridicule and I can say he is finished politically both in Ghana and in NDC." He further asserted that the actions of Mr. Amidu shows there is some level of bitterness in him against the president, the party and some of his colleagues. You have betrayed [President] Mills, Martin, and shown clearly the bitterness in you that you were not re-engaged in 2004 for the running mate position. He is bitter because Mills did not pick him as a running mate after the NDC lost the 2000 elections with him as a running mate. Martin Amidu clearly is also bitter because he was chosen as the Attorney General in 2009 immediately the NDC assumed power but when it failed, he has harboured it in him. Otherwise why should Amidu do this to Mills? Even his opponent sees him as a man of integrity but has suddenly lost it with his press release. What have you done to yourself Alhaji asked. You Martin Amidu has the courage and nerve to say you will not quit after speaking that way? Yes Mills will not ask you to quit but what you have done deserves resignation... He should resign and go because it will not help him as a person. You are not dealing with Betty or any of your colleagues but the whole of the NDC party machinery of about four million people.
