Mr Bright .O. Akwetey, Aspiring Flagbearer of Convention People�s Party (CPP) on Tuesday diagnosed the electoral predicament of the party and prescribed solutions to include unity, discipline, loyalty and strong dedicated leadership committed to the original goals set by the Founding Fathers.
�The CPP, is the Party ordained to save Ghana from her neo-colonial past and present. Sadly, our dear Party has not performed creditably in the Fourth Republic. We have been embroiled in all sorts of controversies and been beset with petty squabbles and dogged by financial difficulties.
�Various issues, factors, situations and circumstances have conspired to make the Party less attractive to the Ghanaian voter. Fortunately, we are aware of these problems and we know the solutions we need to close our ranks and unite behind the leadership,� he stated.
Mr Akwetey, who was speaking at the campaign launch for the CPP�s Flag bearership slot for Election 2012 at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra, noted �Governance is a serious business.
�It must be people-oriented and people-centered to be effective and efficient. Any and every government in Ghana must first pursue the welfare of the people and seek the interest of the common man and woman.
�But, unfortunately governance today, has been reduced into �shouting matches� and the trading of accusations and insults. Government sadly has become insensitive to the plight of the common man and woman�.
He said the CPP must come back to power, �to show them how to govern. We must accelerate national economic and social development within the shortest possible time. Ghana is yearning for the CPP and Africa is waiting for us.
�We must not fail them because we still embody the hopes and aspirations of the Ghanaian and the African. We must organise, organise and organise�.
Mr Akwetey admitted, however that the task ahead of the party was monumental, �But with a united front, and with the requisite focus and determination, we will achieve our goals. A united front is sine qua non. The task ahead requires people who are demonstrably committed to the Nkrumahist agenda�.
He said the party survived the monstrous laws, policies and directives aimed at destroying the structures of the CPP in 1966 and 1981�.�We survived the efforts to balkanise the CPP into splinter groups and to poach some of our best materials into other parties in 1991, 1992 and 1996.
�We have survived the attempts to deny us our name and to steal our colours. We survived all these schemes and manoeuvres, and, therefore, choreographed and orchestrated defections, tele-guided from fake loyalists will not disorganise our Party�.
He said the party had an admirable group of leaders dedicated to putting the interest and aspirations of the party and its members first, over and above their individual agendas.
Mr Akwetey said Election 2012 offered the party a real opportunity to restore a historical fame as the best organised party that commanded the popular votes in general elections, because it had the trust and confidence of its members and the teeming majority of Ghanaians.
He explained that the organisational transformation process that the leadership had embarked upon, would gain momentum and deliver good results if all members put their capacity to mobilise new members and attract more voters to our collective cause.
�We would win a clear mandate to govern Ghana if we pursue the aspirations of the people. We would secure the greatest number of seats in Parliament as well as votes in the Presidential elections and which will enable us stop the deepening polarisation of the nation by the NPP and the NDC.
�We have to consign the polarisation of Ghana to her ultimate destination in the political wilderness,� Mr Akwetey stated.
The press launch was attended by Ms Samia Yaba Nkrumah, CPP National Chairperson and leader; Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreets, General Secretary; National Executive Committee Members; National, Regional and Constituency leaders as well as large entourage of lawyers, traditional and religious leaders.
