Cabinet Reshuffle: My Detractors Have Been Put To Shame -Benyiwa Doe Gloats

Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa-Doe, is in a gloating mood saying her detractors have been put to shame and are crestfallen because the reshuffle axe did not fall on her. President J.E.A Mills, in accordance with the powers entrusted to him by the 1992 Constitution to hire and fire, on Wednesday carried out his highly anticipated eagerly awaited reshuffle, believed to be his last ministerial musical chairs before his first term in office expires resulting in some minor casualties. The casualties included Information Minister, John Akologo Tia, Health Minister, Joseph Yieleh Chireh, Upper West Regional Minister, Issahaqu Salia and Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Col. Cyril Neku (rtd). A statement issued from the Office of the President and signed by J.K. Bebaako-Mensah, Secretary to the President also indicated that the Interior Minister, Dr. Ben Kumbour is the substantive Minister of Justice and Attorney General. The NDC Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour, is the Information Minister-designate, according to statement. Prior to this, speculations had been rife that the former National Women's Organiser of the NDC was on her way out, but it seems for now she has survived. Speaking in an interview during PeaceFM News@6, Ama Benyiwa-Doe rebuffed claims by some sections of the media that she has been removed as the Central Regional Minister, saying she is still in charge. some people in opposition wished that I will be removednow that I have been retained, I know they will be worried and sad she said. Hon Thomas Aquinas, a former Deputy Minister of Rural Devt and Local Government, has been sent to the Central Regional as a deputy to Benyiwa Doe. Asked how she felt about this new arrangement, the Central Regional Minister said she is excited that the President has thought it wise to bring in another member of government to complement her efforts in the region. Im more than excitedconsidering the heavy workload in the Central Region, a deputy will help in completing the projects and initiatives on time, she added.
