Andre Ayew Hails Striking Instincts At Nations Cup
Andre Ayew explains he had to dig deep into his in-built striking instincts to fetch Ghanas winner in the Nations Cup quarter final game against Tunisia.
The Black Stars secured a priceless 2-1 win over the Carthage Eagles in a highly tensed game at the Stade de Francevlle on Sunday.
The Ghana team was pecked back just before recess after captain John Mensah has edged them into the lead with a thunderous header on just 10 minutes.
The Black Stars however left it late to clinch the all-important winner on the 101st minute as midfielder Andre Ayew capitalized on a goalkeeping blunder to send Ghana through to tye semis where Zambia awaits.
And in describing the crowning moment, the Olympique Marseille enforcer credited his in-built attacking qualities but admits he should have done better with his second solo effort which would have completely put the game to bed.
The angle I was was a very difficulty angle to put the ball in, he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
My first reaction was to play it at once but I realized that no one was behind me and the keeper was a bit far so I took my time to play it.
Because when you rush on such occasion maybe you wont get the ball well and the angle was very tight.
So I tried to keep my composure and tried to put the ball at the back of the net.
That is what I did on that action but the other action where I came in and dribbled two, three players, I should have done the same; calm down and shot but I rushed.
But it is part of growing up and I am going to learn from these types of matches.
