Former A-G Hassles JJ... To Break Silence On Woyomegate

Mr. Martin A.B.K. Amidu, former Attorney-General who issued a statement last week calling on Ghanaians to stand up and defend probity and accountability for the Republic of Ghana to get refund of the controversial GH51 million judgment debt paid to Alfred Agbeesi Woyome (which has become known in media circles as Woyomegate), wants former President Jerry John Rawlings to break his silence on the matter. The former Attorney-General, who has also declared citizen vigilante in the on-going high profile trial of Woyome, bankroller of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), said on Joy FMs (an Accra based radio stations) Newsnight programme last week Friday that former President Rawlings as the founder off the NDC, should not overlook the case that could destroy the fortunes of the party, but rather add his noble voice by urging proper conduct of the case in order to retrieve the money to the State. I think former President Rawlings, being the founder of the NDC, should speak on this matter without any political considerations, including all patriotic Ghanaians, Mr. Amidu stated. The former AGs comment followed his earlier headline statement during the week, recalling the infamous historical judgment debt incident saying, Some of our compatriots died at the firing squad accused of just using their positions to take meager bank loans, adding that GH51 million paid without any basis in contract or other legal right should engage the attention of every patriotic citizen to ensure a proper conduct of the case and a refund of the money to the Republic. He further cautioned that the success of the Republic in retrieving the gargantuan money would depend on the quality and commitment of the legal representation for the Republic, of the legal representation for the Republic, in the face of the continued strong support from politically immature and ignorant section of interest groups for the Government to overlook the loot against the State.
