Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, will on Wednesday, July 13, present the Mid-Year Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government and Supplementary Estimate for the 2022 Financial Year to Parliament.
Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Majority Leader, who announced this on the floor of Parliament, when he presented the business statement of the House for the week ending Friday, July 8, 2022, said this was pursuant to the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
The Majority Leader said the Minister of Interior, who is also responsible for the National Identification Authority (NIA) would on Wednesday, July 6, attend the House to brief Members on the challenges the Authority was facing regarding the printing and issuance of the ECOWAS Identity Card also known as the “Ghana Card” to the citizenry.
He noted that leaders of the House were firming up discussions with the Minister responsible for National Security to brief Parliament at a close sitting on matters pertaining to the security of the State, particularly having regard to the recent spate of terrorist attacks within the West Africa sub-region.
He said leadership was still in discussions with Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, to brief the House on the compensation package by the Government to poultry farmers who were impacted by the outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza in 2021.
He said the appropriate date for the briefing would be communicated to Members during in the course of the ensuing week, but it shall most probably, be Tuesday, July 5.
Mr. Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the Business Committee had not scheduled any Minister to respond to questions asked by Members on Friday, July 8th. This he explained was in view of the fact that a Cabinet retreat was scheduled for the said date which would require the presence and participation of all Cabinet Ministers.
He said barring any unforeseen circumstances, the House was expected to adjourn sine die on Thursday, 28th July, saying “This is subject to confirmation with Right Honourable Speaker upon his return to Ghana on July 6.”
He said this early adjournment of the House was to enable the Speaker and some members of the Leadership of the House to participate in a statutory international meeting during the last week of July.
He said with regards to this development, the Business Committee again was urging Committees with referrals to expeditiously work on same for consideration of the House.
“In that same vein, the Committee is also urging the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to present to Parliament any government business that would require the attention of the House before adjournment sine die.”
The Majority Leader said for the ensuing week, six ministers are expected to attend the House to respond to 31 questions.

Mid year budget review? As things stand now, the 2022 budget is out of gear, some government departments have not received a pesewa since January 2022. So what is the minister coming to review ? There was this illiterate old man who used to say that if you want a ***barred word*** person and you bypass an educated person, then you won't find any ***barred word*** person again. We thought his words were rather insulting. The old man seems to have been vindicated. How on earth will a government full of ' we have the men' bank its hope in a tax that can easily be avoided. I bought my mobile phone from my sweat, bought a SIM card from my sweat, worked for my money from my sweat without any assistance from government . I now want to send GHC 200.00 to my old lady in the village to buy medicine and use some for koko, you say you will tax it through E-levy, what of if I don't send the money through my mobile phone. If I don't do momo, I won't pay E-levy, it's that simple to avoid. 2. How on earth will a roads minister stop payment of road tolls in his country. Meanwhile long vehicles from neighboring Burkina Faso , Mali and Niger cross over into Ghana , carry heavy loads and use our roads free in and out. However when Ghana's vehicles cross into these countries they pay road tolls in and out, is this man wrong to say educated people are ***barred word***? Will any illiterate person organize money to go and donate to a church when his prepaid meter is peeping indicating he's about to run out of credit, when he's water bill is in arrears, when his wife is saying they are running out of foodstuff at home, when his children's school fees are due, when his own roof is leaking? Can the finance minister look at the MP's in their face when he enters parliament? Hear him, we are not going to IMF, we are a proud people, we have the capacity, we have the resources. Within a matter of months, the capacity is gone, the resources are gone, the pride is gone. To where? The minister should go to the dictionary and see the meaning of the word SHAME. Fortunately for him Ghana's so called politicians don't know SHAME, if not some would have died of SHAME disease long long ago. Anybody who doesn't know SHAME can be likened to a ***barred word***/ woman for they walk naked and sees nothing wrong with that. Ghana's so called political class SHAME on you, SHAME . IMF , here they come again.
