Ghana’s leading telecommunications service provider, MTN, in partnership with Qualcomm, has launched the MTN /Qualcomm 3G enabled HTC phone in Accra.
The launch kick starts an awareness campaign aimed at creating a platform to drive increased data usage among Ghanaians, particularly the business community.
Launching the product, the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, Rahul De, reiterated the company’s commitment to increase internet penetration in the country with the aim of bridging the digital divide between Ghana and the developed world.
“Our partnership with Qualcomm to promote these HTC 3G phones ties in with our broad objective to encourage Ghanaians to tap into the benefits of surfing the internet in order to boost productivity generally impact the socio-economic development of the country, ” he said.
He encouraged current and potential MTN subscribers to take advantage of data services available on the MTN network in order to improve their mobile experience.
He listed as examples referring to services such as MTN Business which provides total ICT solutions to businesses and individuals, ‘Fonmail’ service, and a wide range of 3.5G services, he indicated they are part of the network’s resolve to enrich the lives of it’s over 10 million subscribers across the country through the provision of world class value for money telecommunication services.
The Managing Director of Qualcomm West Africa, Alex Dadson, indicated that Qualcomm is pioneering a whole new era of mobile phone usage where cell phones are being used to promote commerce, education and medicine geared to empower people in this technological age to help them make meaningful contribution to the development of our society.

Realizing the low level of internet penetration in Ghana, MTN took the initiative and embarked on a month long data usage campaign in September this year to create awareness and educate the general public on the unlimited possibilities that comes with internet usage.
Qualcomm is a global supplier of chipsets and wireless solutions to mobile industry and the world leader in 3G and next-generation mobile technologies.
The campaign was done in collaboration with SellPhones Ghana Limited, a retailer and distributor of mobile devices and authorised HTC distributor and key device channel partner for MTN
The telecommunication industry in Ghana has played a pivotal role in projecting Ghana in to the digital age and MTN Ghana’s contribution in this regard cannot be over emphasized.
With more than half of the mobile phone users in Ghana on its network, MTN Ghana continues to drive innovation by developing competitive products and services and investing in the best telecom infrastructure that is aimed at enriching the mobile experience of its subscribers.
