The Artisanal & Small Scale Mining (ASM)-Africa Network, a Civil Society Organisation advocating on the promotion of responsible and sustainable artisanal and small scale mining issues in Ghana has congratulated the Executive director of the Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) for his appointment unto the Advisory board of the Open Contracting Partnership.

In a statement issued over the weekend by the director of Research & Policy of ASM Africa-Network Mr. Edward Kwasi Akuoko, it noted that the appointment is yet another manifestation of Dr. Ameen Adam’s selfless commitment to the service of humanity through civil society advocacy campaign in Ghana, Africa and globally.

With your experience as the former Africa Coordinator of the extractives industries programme in Ibis, a Danish International NGO, former Oil Coordinator of Publish What You Pay Ghana, former Energy Policy Analyst at the Ministry of Energy in Ghana, Commissioner of Ghana’s Public Utilities Regulatory Commission; and as a former Deputy Northern Regional Minister and Mayor of Ghana’s third largest city-Tamale, we at ASMAN has every reason to believe that you are more than capable and up to the task

As advocates in the Small Scale Mining Industry we are not oblivious of the numerous assistance and support offered to our organisation and other similar institutions in establishing a common front in advocacy campaigning.

It is our fervent hope that your appointment will foster a much greater and improved relationship between our organisation and the various organisations and groups you work with, as we all strive to attain sustainability in the exploitation and use of Africa’s mineral resources.

We also recognize your role as a consultant for some national, African and international organizations and your presentations at some of the great universities including – Stanford, Berkeley, Harvard and the Houston Law Centre.

As a visiting speaker you also presented papers at Chattam House, the World Bank Institute, the Brookings Institution and the Woodrow Wilson Centre. As Specialist on Africa’s energy policy, petroleum policy and governance, you are also currently working in a number of countries including Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and Kenya; advising governments and supporting parliamentary committees and CSOs.

It therefore came to us as no surprise at all when you were recently called to testify on how Africa can avoid the resource curse before the United States Congress House Sub-committee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations, the statement concluded.

Dr. Adam holds a PhD from CEPMLP of the University of Dundee in the UK specializing in petroleum fiscal systems, fiscal policy in resource-led economies; and institutional development. He also holds an MPhil (Economics) and B.A. (Hons) Economics from the University of Cape Coast.
