Tasty Tom Tomato Mix, a firm favourite used in homes across Ghana for making traditional recipes such as Jollof rice, light soup and gravy, has been redeveloped following extensive market research to include an improved fortified vitamin recipe, intended to meet the nutritional needs of families in Ghana.

The Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix, developed by Nutrifoods Ghana Limited; a joint venture between Olam and Sanyo Foods, is now fortified with extra fibre to improve digestion and Vitamin A, D, E and K which are essential for ensuring good eyesight, immunity, muscular growth and building strong bones in children and families all over Ghana.

Mr. Amitav Basak, the Head of Business of Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd, producers of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix said:

“We are delighted to introduce our loyal customers to an enriched product, complete with vitamins A, D, E, and K. By adding the updated Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix to your meals, you are helping improve improved nutrition for your whole family, and all at no extra cost.

“We have been careful to maintain the natural redness, thickness and taste the Tasty Tom Tomato brand is known for, to ensure it remains a firm and delicious favourite in your cooking.”

Over recent years, it has been discovered that a “hidden hunger” problem has been prevalent in Ghana, with digestion difficulties, malnutrition and Vitamin A deficiencies identified as key problems affecting women and young children. With the introduction of the vitamin-enriched Tasty Tom Mix, it is hoped that it will contribute to eliminating the issue.

Prof. Matilda Steiner-Asiedu, the president of the Ghana Nutrition Association

Prof. Matilda Steiner-Asiedu, the president of the Ghana Nutrition Association said:

“In Ghana malnutrition continues to be a challenge. Around 11% of all children under 5years of age are underweight and it is associated with widespread of micronutrient deficiencies.

“Statistics also show that the prevalence of Vitamin A deficiency ranges between 35-75% among children and about 65% of pregnant women in Ghana.

“We are therefore commending Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd, producers of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix for this initiative to contribute to the daily vitamin needs of their consumers”.

The new improved Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix is available in both 70g cans and sachets. 210g, 400g and 2.2kg cans are also available. The Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix is available in markets and shops nationwide.
