A former board member of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) Mr. Benjamin Kpodo has revealed to Citi Business News that the Managing Director of the company was fired for a number of reasons including misconduct.

The former MD, Doreen Owusu Fianko was fired by the company’s board early this week with no clear reasons over her dismissal.

The board whose tenure ended in June this year was also dissolved on Thursday by Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor upon orders from President John Mahama.

Mr. Kpodo explained to Citi Business News that Mrs Fianko among others persistently refused to execute the construction of an airline house, which was supposed to be rented out to Airlines operating in the country.

“The board budgeted for the construction of a large office to attract the airlines operating in the country to come and rent the facility instead of them staying in town. This was supposed to bring us additional revenue. But for four years we made budgetary provisions but she never implemented this and she knows it is something we were not happy about.”

Mr. Kpodo also said the Transport Ministry was informed over a month ago about the former MD’s conduct which did not auger well with the board.

“We had written much earlier before she was relieved of her position as managing director. The board had written about some of the things she was doing that we were not happy about because it had happened for a very long time. So the board decided to take that decision. She was served with that complaint and she replied.”

Meanwhile, another source also stated that Mrs. Fianko had also indulged in other engagements without the approval of the board.

Mr. Kpodo however added that the dissolution of the board does not come as a surprise to him because they had served their four-year term and was only acting as caretakers
