Prepare to pay 30% more for your sachet and bottled water, President of Sachet and Bottled Water Producers has stated. The increment, he says, has become necessary because of the increase in utility tariffs.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission on Wednesday announced a 52% increase in tariffs for water and almost 80% for electricity.
Public reactions spearheaded by the Trades Union Congress has kicked against the upward adjustment describing it as "unacceptable" and "unfair".
The President of Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Seth Adjei Baah is unhappy with utility tariff hikes and is worried that recently announced increases would lead to "the cost of doing business going high and high" or even lead to the collapse of some businesses in the country.
But President of the Sachet and Bottled Water Producers, tells 'Joy News' the 30% hike is important because of the cost of raw materials used in producing water has gone up.
He said heavy duty pumps used in the production of water, rely on electricity which is up by 78.9%.
Magnus Nuuno predicts the price of bottled and sachet water will be "going up by not less than 30%".
He believes the new price "is highly highly considerate. I must let the public know that a bag of water if they were selling it from the shops for 2ghc, then we expect it to go from GHc2.2 or GHc2.5"
He said sachet water will after October 1st cost 15p.
