Three telecommunications companies operating in the country lost over 30,000 subscribers at the end of November last year, a recent report by the National Communications Authority (NCA) has stated.
MTN, the leading mobile operator in Ghana, lost over 20,000 of its 12,731,772 subscribers at the end of November 2013.
The report also covered the subscriber base for mobile voice telephony in Ghana as at the end of November 2013.
Airtel’s subscriber base also reduced by 14,147 from 3,347,173 to 3,333,126 at the end of November, 2013.
GLO’s market share from October ending reduced from 5.71 percent to 5.53 percent as at the end of November 2013, with a subscriber base of 1,529,304.
However, Vodafone’s subscriber base increased from 5,856,090 to 5,931,923 at the end of November 2013, representing 21.44 percent of the total market share.
Tigo’s subscriber base also shot up to 4,014,487, representing 14.51 percent of the market share at the end of the review month.
Expresso maintained a market share of 0.52 percent with its subscriber base increasing from 147,731 to 145,057 as at the end of November, 2013.
According to the report, the subscriber base for mobile voice telephony showed a growth rate of 0.3 percent from 27,591,722 subscribers recorded in October to 27,665,572 as at the end of November, 2013.
On data subscribership, it said there was a decline of 1 percent at the end of November, 2013 from a collective total subscribership figure of 9,860,019 at the end of October to 9,763581 ending November, 2013.
The report added that the overall penetration rate in the country decreased from 37.9 percent to 37.4 percent as at the end of November, 2013.
